Renaissance Naval Battles

I recently disovered Skull & Crown's new line of galleys designed to recreate naval battles from the 16th through 17th centuries. These are laser-cut wooden kits that are great-looking and easy to put together and paint.

Battle Report #1

Being a description of my first battle using Galleys, Guns and Glory!

A Venetian squadron of a Lanterna and 2 galleys faced off against a similar squadron of Turkish ships.

The battle began in narrow waters between several islands. The squadrons approached each other on turn 1.

The Venetians attempted to cross the Turkish front and concentrate on the Turkish left on turn 2.

On turn 3, the two forces approached within cannon range. The Turkish fire hit home while the Venetian guns fired ineffectually.

On turn 4 the two enemy Lanternas came to grips - with the Turks winning the desperate boarding battle. Meanwhile, the right-hand Venetian galley managed to fight its Turkish opposite number to a stand-still.

On turn 5 the Venetian backed away and finished off its opponnet with its guns. Meanwhile, the Venetian lefthand galley attempted to maneuver into a position where it could attack the Turkish flagship.

On turn 6 it managed to ram the Turk and capture it while the remaining. Turkish gallley maneuvered to retaliate and the right-hand Venetian galley slowly attempted to support its compatriot on the left.

On turn 7 the remaining Turk rammed the the left-hand Venetian galley and captured it. The remaining Venetian galley belatedly moved toward the Turkish galley.

Turn 8 saw both sides attempting to get to grips, with the climax coming in turn 9 when more excellent Turkishgunnery cleared the Venetian decks, leaving yet another derelict floating aimlessly among the wreckage of battle. The Turks celebrated their hard-won victory by towing off their prizes for repairs.
